Float Valves

Purpose: Float valves are used to control the water level in tanks, such as those found in toilets, water heaters, or water towers.  

Components:

• Float: The yellow, spherical object is the float. It rises and falls with the water level in the tank.  

• Arm: A metal arm connects the float to the valve.  

• Valve: The valve controls the flow of water into the tank. As the water level rises, the float rises, lifting the arm and closing the valve to stop the water flow. When the water level drops, the float descends, opening the valve to allow more water to enter.
